£5,600 Award for Young People’s Community Food Skills Project

£5,600 Award for Young People’s Community Food Skills Project

9th March 2026

Haldane Youth Services has been awarded £5,600 from the Community Food Fund 25/26 (managed by West Dunbartonshire HSCP - Health Improvement Team) to deliver a new programme helping young people build confidence, independence, and essential life skills through cooking and sustainable food education.

The project will support young people to prepare low‑cost, nutritious meals, learn budgeting skills, and develop good food hygiene and household routines. Participants will also explore where food comes from, how to make environmentally friendly choices, and how to grow their own produce.

The programme aims to improve young people’s daily independence, boost confidence in the kitchen, and encourage healthier eating habits. By learning to budget, plan meals, and cook for themselves and their families, young people will gain practical skills that reduce pressure at home and support long‑term wellbeing.

A spokesperson for Haldane Youth Services said: “This funding allows us to equip young people with the skills and confidence to cook well, eat well, and make sustainable choices that benefit both their families and the environment.”
